I built this because I needed it for my own parents.

My parents live over 1,000 kilometres away. Like many adult children, I was constantly worrying — had Mum remembered her doctor's appointment? Was Dad taking his medication? If something happened, would they be able to reach me quickly?

I wanted a way to stay genuinely connected — not just a phone call, but a quiet, constant presence in their home that reminded them of appointments, let them send a message with one button press, and let me know they were up and about each day. I couldn't find anything that did this well, so I built it myself.

SeniorsSupport has been running in my parents' home for months now. They love the family photos. Mum uses the Stream Deck buttons every day. I can see when they've responded and know they're okay, even when I'm 1,000 kilometres away.

How it works

Simple for everyone involved

SeniorsSupport requires no technical knowledge from your elderly parents. You manage everything remotely from your Mac or iPhone.

1

Set up the display

A Mac Mini connects to a TV or monitor at your parents' home, running SeniorsSupport full-screen. It starts automatically, restarts after power outages, and requires no interaction from your parents to keep running.

2

Manage from anywhere

Use the companion SeniorsAdmin app on your Mac or iPhone to add appointments, send messages and check responses. Changes appear on the display within seconds via iCloud — no server, no accounts, no complexity.

3

One-button responses

When you send a message ("Has the delivery arrived?"), your parents respond with a single button press on the Stream Deck — YES, NO or OK. No typing, no swiping, no confusion. The Stream Deck also has buttons to call family members directly.

4

You're notified instantly

The moment they respond, you receive a text message on your phone — "Mum & Dad replied YES to: Has the delivery arrived?" You can also see all responses in the SeniorsAdmin app on your Mac or iPhone.

The Stream Deck

Six buttons. That's all they need.

The Elgato Stream Deck Mini sits beside the display with six large, clearly labelled buttons. No smartphone, no app, no learning curve.

Features

Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

Designed specifically for adult children caring for elderly parents from a distance.

🕐

Clock, date and weather

The first screen in every cycle shows the current day, date, time and local weather — updated automatically. Genuinely useful orientation for elderly people who lose track of time.

📅

Appointment display

Today, tomorrow and upcoming appointments shown in large, clear text. Past appointments are automatically hidden as the day progresses. Supports recurring appointments — daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

💬

Two-way messaging

Send questions and messages remotely. Your parents respond with YES, NO or OK on the Stream Deck. You receive an instant text notification with their response and the original message text.

🧠

Daily Did You Know

When no messages are waiting, a daily "Did you know?" question appears — history, nature, science and more. Your parents respond YES or NO, keeping them engaged and letting you know they're up and about.

📝

Reminders

Gentle, persistent reminders that cycle through the display indefinitely — no response required. Perfect for medication reminders, daily habits or gentle personal notes like "Be kind and relaxed today."

📸

Family photos

A rotating slideshow of family photos keeps the display warm and personal. Add photos to a shared Photos album and they appear automatically on the display. The most loved feature according to our beta families.

📞

FaceTime auto-answer

Incoming FaceTime calls from you are answered automatically — no buttons to press, no missed calls. When the call ends, the display resumes where it left off.

🌙

Screen dimmer

The display automatically dims overnight between times you configure, so it does not disturb sleep. Returns to full brightness in the morning.

🎨

Three display themes

Choose from LCARS (bold and technical), Warm & Simple (cream background, gentle colours, designed for maximum readability) or Classic (clean white and blue). Switch any time from the admin app.

🏠

Multiple households

Manage more than one household from a single SeniorsAdmin installation. Perfect for couples who each have elderly parents in different locations — each gets their own display and data.

📱

iPhone admin app

SeniorsAdmin is available for iPhone as well as Mac. Add appointments, send messages and check responses from anywhere, even when you're away from your desk.

🔒

Security monitoring Optional

When your parents leave the house, they press the SECURE button to activate camera monitoring via SecuritySpy. You receive a text notification when monitoring activates, and an email with a still image if motion is detected. The display shifts to a red background to remind them monitoring is on.

Common questions

FAQ

Does my parent need to do anything to set it up?

No. Set it all up during a visit and maintain it remotely from then on. Once installed, the display runs automatically. Your parent only ever needs to press Stream Deck buttons.

What if there is a power outage?

The Mac Mini restarts automatically after power is restored, logs in without a password and relaunches SeniorsSupport.

Does it work if my parents live overseas?

Yes. Everything communicates via iCloud, which works anywhere with an internet connection. FaceTime calls work internationally too.

Can my partner and I both use SeniorsAdmin?

Yes. Multiple people can run SeniorsAdmin on different devices pointing at the same household's iCloud folder. You all see the same appointments, messages and responses in real time.

Can I manage two sets of elderly parents with one license?

Yes. Beta licenses support two SeniorsSupport installations and SeniorsAdmin manages multiple households — perfect for couples who each have elderly parents in different locations.

Is the security monitoring feature included?

The Stream Deck SECURE button and the display indicator are part of SeniorsSupport. The actual camera monitoring requires SecuritySpy, a separate app purchased directly from its developer (bensoftware.com) for around USD $80.

What Mac do I need for the display?

An Apple Silicon Mac Mini running macOS Tahoe (26.0) or later. The base M4 Mac Mini is ideal — compact, quiet and energy-efficient for a device that runs 24 hours a day.

What if I need help setting it up?

Beta participants receive a detailed setup guide covering every step from hardware assembly to software configuration. If you get stuck, email us and we'll help personally.
